Balken Theme 1 600 15

St 1 800

Vulnerability of coastal systems and hazards to society sets the stage for the subsequent themes which address the wider coastal domain. It considers the hazards to humans from coupled human–ecosystem change, carrying capacities and vulnerability issues, including the risk of degrading the sustainability of coastal goods and services. Key issues include:

  • Effects of non-linearities and uncertainties on the vulnerability of coastal societies and ecosystemsto global change hazards
  • Communities stakes in the coastal zone including resources, goods and services
